 Earlier Palliative Care, the Better!

 Studies have shown  less depression and anxiety , better quality of life and lived 3 months longer than expected (Temel J, et al. NEJM2010;363:733-42)

 “Canadians will live for years at the end of life with symptom burdens and care requirements of one or more serious illnesses.  (Analysis, CMAJ, Dec.6, 2016, 188)

 Hospice Palliative care: is about Living Well…..right to the end!

 Is appropriate for any individual and their family that has been diagnosed with a serious illness(s), such as; cancer, ALS, End stage heart, kidney, liver failure, etc., regardless of age.

  • Holistic care approach that involves a variety of interdisciplinary team members.

  • Aids in medical and non-medical treatment options for symptom management.

  • Promote opportunities for meaningful and valuable experiences, personal and spiritual growth, and self-actualization.

  • Improves quality of living

  • Supports provided to the individuals and their families related to: grieving, coping, and bereavement.

  • Acts prophylactically in preventing new issues/concerns from arising via patient education and close monitoring by your Palliative Health Care team.

  • Prepares for the dying process
