Kipling Memorial Health Centre Demolition Process Begins

The Kipling Memorial Health Centre, which has served the community for over 60 years, will soon be demolished.

Sun Country Health Region (SCHR) has received approval of funding from the Ministry of Health, under the authority of The Regional Health Services Act, for the asbestos remediation and demolition costs of the Kipling Memorial Health Centre and the Nursing Residence building in Kipling.

The Kipling Memorial Health Centre, along with the Willowdale Lodge, was replaced by the new Kipling Integrated Health Centre in December 2014.

“The people of Kipling are well served by the new Kipling Integrated Health Centre,” said John Knoch, Acting President and CEO of the Sun Country Health Region. “We are pleased to move forward with the final phase of this project, removing the buildings that are no longer in use.”

The Kipling Integrated Health Centre was one of 13 long-term care facility replacement projects announced by the Government of Saskatchewan in 2009.

“This project demonstrates our government’s commitment to a health care system that listens and responds to local voices. Our goal is to be responsive and effective in the communities we serve,” said MLA for Moosomin Steven Bonk. “The people of Kipling, Mayor Bright, and local representatives have made a strong contribution to the success of this project.”

“We want to thank the heath region and the ministry for their continued investment in the community,” said Buck Bright, Mayor of Kipling. “We look forward to the safe removal of these buildings and we are excited to see what the future will look like for this property.”

SCHR has contracted a project manager and environmental consultant, and is preparing tender documents for the asbestos remediation and demolition work. Following the awarding of the contract, on-site work is expected to begin in summer 2017.
