New program begins in Sun Country Health Region
Sun Country Health Region (SCHR) is pleased to announce the introduction of a new cataract surgery program in the Region.
“We are very excited about the ability to provide cataract surgery for the first time in our Region,” says Marga Cugnet, CEO, SCHR.
“This is a wonderful new service that can decrease travel time for all residents in our Region. It will be quicker and more convenient for them, she says.
“This expansion of our services also will help to reduce wait times for cataract surgery in Regina hospitals. It will help to take some of the pressure off wait times in Regina,” she says.
The program is offered at the Weyburn General Hospital by Regina ophthalmologist Dr. Ryan Eidsness. He will travel to Weyburn for the surgery once to two days each month. The plan is to provide the service to about 350 patients each year.
Cataract surgery replaces the clouded lens in a person’s eye with an artificial lens to restore clear vision. It is generally performed on an outpatient basis and does not require an overnight stay in a hospital. Follow-up appointments after surgery are also booked in Weyburn the next day for patients.>>> Return to Listing
